    Teaching Assistant

    Have you ever considered becoming a teaching assistant? Teaching Assistants work to support our students and teachers throughout the day in many different ways. This is a certified position where you would need to meet the following requirements:

    • Have a HS diploma
    • Take 2 courses online (one is free, one you pay for). Financial assistance may be available.
    • DASA course at BOCES (~$100). Financial assistance may be available.
    • State Teaching Assistant test at any location (~$100). Financial assistance may be available.
    • Create a TEACH account (Pay $35 to apply for your certification and be sure to submit all documentation).

    School Aid or Monitor

    If a teaching assistant isn’t something you would like to do, but you are still interested in impacting our school community, how about becoming a school aid or monitor?

    Teaching assistants, aides, and monitors work September through June with all student holiday and vacations off. We have an excellent health insurance, dental and retirement plan.

    Job Title: SCHOOL SECURITY AIDE

    POSITION CLASS DEFINITION:

    This position involves responsibility for maintaining order and providing general security for all occupants of a school building and includes the safeguarding of school district property in cooperation with a variety of school district personnel.  Responsibilities include patrolling school premises, enforcement of the School District’s Code of Conduct, and establishing and maintaining a setting that is safe and secure.

    The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the School Principal with administrative supervision provided by the District Superintendent.  Supervision is not a function of the position but the incumbent may be assigned to direct other employees in providing security.  The incumbent does related work as required.

    PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:

    Typical activities characteristic of the class.

    • Provides for the safety and security of students, staff and visitors to school buildings within the district;
    • Maintains order and compliance with the school district’s code of conduct, policies, rules and regulations in conjunction with appropriate school district staff;
    • Conducts in-classroom educational sessions and training regarding drug abuse prevention, school safety and other topics of interest/importance as needed;
    • Circulates in the hallways, restrooms, cafeteria and patrols school grounds, etc… to preserve order and protect property;
    • Prevents unauthorized visitors from entering school buildings and/or loitering on school grounds and provides general information to visitors on premises;
    • Advises school administration of circumstances and/or situations with the potential to threaten school safety and security;
    • May assist in handling emergency situations and/or disciplinary matters;
    • Confers with the principal to develop plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations on or near the campus or involving students at school-related activities;
    • Notifies appropriate law enforcement agency and/or fire department in case of an emergency at the school;
    • Keeps records and prepares written incident reports as needed;
    • Participates in related in-service training sessions including first aid, conflict resolution, safe schools etc…;
    • Performs related duties as required by the building principal and/or designee to ensure a safe school environment.
