Hannibal Senior Selected for NYSSMA All-State Conference

Hannibal High School chorus student Kayla Martinez-Muñoz will join elite company in December, when she will perform at the 2026 NYSSMA All-State Winter Conference in Rochester.
The NYSSMA All-State Conference brings together some of the most accomplished student musicians from across New York state. Participants must audition and perform for a judge, and Martinez-Muñoz earned a score of 99, which secured her a spot in the prestigious music festival.
For Martinez-Muñoz, the honor represents a milestone for both her and the Hannibal Central School District. Her selection marks the first time in recent school history that a HCSD student has been selected to participate in the esteemed festival.
“I feel really accomplished because this has been a dream since seventh grade,” Martinez-Muñoz said. “I attribute my success to (HHS music teacher) Dr. Denise Ellis and past music directors who have always supported me and encouraged me to do my best.”
Ellis noted she is proud of Martinez-Muñoz and the work she has put into developing her skills as a vocalist.
“Kayla has worked incredibly hard to reach this level, and I am so proud of her,” said Dr. Ellis. “Her achievements are a manifestation of a student who envisions things for herself and then works toward achieving them. It’s a testament to how hard she works and the dreams and goals she sets for herself.”
As part of the conference, Kayla will have the opportunity to perform alongside other exceptional student musicians from throughout New York state while working with accomplished music educators and conductors.
