DMK Students Showcase Creativity in Food Truck Challenge

Dennis M. Kenney Middle School students recently put their culinary creativity and entrepreneurial skills to the test during a food truck challenge in Chris Romano’s Family and Consumer Science class.
As part of the project, students worked in teams to design their own unique food truck concepts. Each group developed a menu, created a small-scale replica of their truck, and prepared food samples for judges to taste. The challenge combined elements of cooking, marketing, and design, giving students a hands-on learning experience.
The competition featured a variety of imaginative themes and flavors. In sixth period, the “Berry Bus” captured the hearts and taste buds of their peers, sweeping the student vote. During eighth period, the “Pink Sparkly Unicorns” stood out with their homemade sopapillas, earning the top prize. In ninth period, a loaded nachos-themed truck dominated the competition, winning across the board with judges and classmates alike.
Romano said the project encourages students to think creatively while applying real-world skills. From planning and teamwork to presentation and food preparation, students gained valuable experience in a fun and interactive way.
