Senior goalkeeper Salladin commits to Le Moyne College
After more than a decade of playing soccer for various youth programs, club teams, and school, Hannibal High School goalkeeper Sophia Salladin is ready to embark on her next chapter playing for the Le Moyne College soccer program.
For Salladin, the prospect of playing at the Division 1 level is a dream come true and the result of hard work and dedication. Her commitment, skill, and leadership have made her an invaluable part of the Hannibal girls' soccer program, said Hannibal varsity soccer coach Meg Daley during a recent ceremony honoring Salladin.
“The confidence our team had knowing that we had Sophia behind us is something that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet but is incredibly important to a team’s morale,” Daley said while noting Salladin collected 750 career saves for the Warriors.
During her signing ceremony, Sophia thanked Daley for her guidance and credited her parents, Jessie and Kevin Salladin, as her greatest supporters throughout her journey. "They’ve always been there for me, bringing me to practices, games, and tournaments. I truly wouldn't be where I am today without them," she said.
Salladin said while she is looking forward to playing soccer and studying biology at Le Moyne, she is also going to miss being a Hannibal Warrior.
“This is a great environment with an amazing team culture,” Salladin said. “Everyone pushes each other to do their best. It’s been a great run here, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.”
