Fairley students compete in Battle of the Books

Four teams of Fairley Elementary School students recently participated in the annual Battle of the Books competition for a chance to advance to the regional level, with the Reading Rangers earning the win.

The participants each read a selection of eight books and then answered questions to test their reading comprehension and knowledge. To earn the maximum amount of points for each question, the teams had to correctly identify the book title and author for which the question referenced.

After months of studying and reading the books, students faced off in two rounds of eight questions each.

“I’m so proud of their efforts and hard work,” said librarian Marie Smith, who coordinated the battle and served as emcee for the battle. “Competing in this event is no easy task, but they did so well and should be proud of their accomplishments.”

Ultimately, the “Reading Rangers” were able to edge out their opponents to advance to the regional competition. The winning team was comprised of Autumn Bonoffski, Lilah Murphy, Camilla Ford and Rex Vallance.
