Literacy celebrated at Fairley during Read Across America week

The Hannibal Central School District recently embraced Read Across America week with several activities and contests to promote reading at the elementary level.
The weeklong celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday provided students with an opportunity to explore a variety of book titles in the library during “reading cafes.” They also participated in different Seuss theme days, ate green hardboiled eggs and ham sandwiches in the cafeteria, and explored books while also making Seuss-inspired crafts during a family reading night.
In addition to the unique daily activities, students also participated in a Read-a-Thon that spanned an entire week. Nearly 200 community members sponsored the students as they read a total of 83,406 minutes throughout the week. The event raised $3,860 for Hannibal Home and School Inc., which sponsors enrichment opportunities for students.
