NHS Welcomes 20 Inductees

Twenty Hannibal High School upperclassmen were recently honored for their academic success and citizenship as they were inducted into the Sadie Adamy chapter of the National Honor Society.

Surrounded in the auditorium by family, friends, teachers and administrators, the inductees were lauded for exemplifying the five characteristics of the NHS: scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character. Each inductee went through a rigorous selection process, said NHS advisers Carol Burch and Lisa Mason.

“The inductees must have at least a 90 percent weighted cumulative GPA since entering high school,” Mason said. “They also had to fill out an application that showed they demonstrate the five pillars of the National Honor Society.”

Inductees earned their service hours through numerous community projects, including volunteering as coaches, working at the Christmas Bureau carnival and collecting goods for the needy, to name a few.

Superintendent Christopher Staats commended the students for setting an example for their peers. He stressed the importance of being well-rounded citizens and noted that the inductees met that criteria.

“You’re not just that one piece, that one speck in time,” Staats said. “You’re the whole package. Congratulations.”

The following students were inducted during the ceremony: Cassandra Long, Emily Pierce, Alyssa Beck, Fenix Burger, Owen Calkins, Ceth Deloff, Zach Gombas, Brandon Graham, Velvet Howland, Allyson Jones, Hannah Kuc, Edward Lamb III, Rebecca Marsh, Sean Mason, Ashlee Norris, Nichole Oleyourryk, Kaitlyn Ryder, Hannah Shattell, Madelynn Wakefield and Emily Weaver.
