 DMK Building Vision

DMK students are actively engaged in the learning process as they acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to become responsible, contributing citizens within their community and beyond.  Our standards-based curriculum acknowledges that all children can learn when they have clear expectations within rigorous classrooms. We recognize that students learn in a variety of ways and that we need to be sensitive to differences in learning styles and to provide additional support to children who need it.  Students are positioned to become critical thinkers, problem solvers and lifelong learners.

Within a nurturing and safe environment, DMK staff members actively engage all students in the creative, analytical and growth-oriented learning process.  We are dedicated to the education of the whole child and strive to create an atmosphere in which all students are nurtured emotionally to excel academically.

All stakeholders remain actively involved as advocates for their students and supporters of the school’s programs and staff.  At DMK, students, teachers, administrators, parents and support staff are part of a community of learners.  Through these partnerships we strive to support our students as they embrace the challenges of the 21st Century.  We stand together—DMK all the way!

Fairley Elementary raises over $600 at Paige's Pajamarama: Dressed in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pajama bottoms, bathrobes and Disney princess nightgowns, among other night ware, students and staff members at Fairley Elementary School raised over $600 to assist local families whose children have cancer.   The fourth annual Paige’s Pajamarama at the elementary school allowed the extended Fairley family to dress up in pajamas for the day, in exchange for a donation to the cause. Healthy Family Night at Fairley draws huge crowd: Fairley Elementary School’s 4 th annual Healthy Family Night helped families learn that it takes more than physical fitness and healthy eating habits to become healthier children and adults.   The event also encouraged youngsters and their parents/guardians gain self-confidence to complete tasks and make great decisions. History comes to life at Ole Fashion Day: A decades-long tradition at Fairley Elementary School continued recently as fourth-graders, decked out in period costumes, took a step back in time during Ole Fashion Day. The annual event corresponds with the social studies unit on Colonial America, where students learn about patriots, loyalists and the Revolutionary War. Leonard Earns PE Teacher of the Year Honors: With a commitment to his students and a passion for physical education, Hannibal alumnus Scott Leonard recently received honors as the Central North Zone Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year. The award, presented by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AHPERD), recognizes individuals for excellence in teaching and overall performance in the disciplines of physical education. Fairley PE classes roll out new bowling lesson: Although there is not a bowling alley in Hannibal, Fairley Elementary School students are learning the game and gaining hands-on experience thanks to a Bowler’s Ed initiative. The New York State Bowling Association, through the Bowler’s Ed in-school bowling program, provided six sets of mobile bowling equipment for Hannibal’s kindergarten through fourth grade physical education classes.
