When schools are closed or delayed because of weather conditions or other emergencies, early announcements will be made over local television stations and their respective websites as well as our school website. Parents are encouraged to check the school website and/or tune into the following designated “official” stations: WSTM: Channel 3, WTVH: Channel 5, WSYR: Channel 9, YNN (Time Warner) Channel 10. Some broadcast stations, including NewsChannel 9 and CNY Central (Channels 3, 5), offer apps that will send text and email alerts about school closings to your devicesWhen it is necessary to close school, the district will call these stations and they, in turn, will broadcast this information. Usually this information will be on the air by 6:00 a.m. If you have any doubts about the opening of school, it is suggested that you keep your TV on or check the district’s website. You will also be notified of closings, delays and early dismissals via the SchoolMessenger system, so please make sure you have given the district your current contact information. Please note: Due to the volume of closing notifications sent via the SchoolMessenger system and filters put in place by your email providers, these SchoolMessenger notifications may not be received immediately. We encourage you to check the district website and/or consult local media outlets in addition to awaiting phone and e-mail notifications to ensure that you and your child(ren) receive the information as soon as possible.
In the event of an emergency midday dismissal, high school and middle school students will be released first. Elementary children will be sent home second. Dismissal times will vary, but you will be notified of the latest information through SchoolMessenger.
When there is a one-hour delay, breakfast will be offered in all three schools. When there is a two-hour delay, breakfast will be cancelled at Fairley Elementary only
