General Class Information

Progress Reports
Progress reports will be given out to all students every Tuesday the progress reports should be signed by a Parent/Guardian and returned to me by Thursday at the latest.

Homework and assignments
Each student will be given an assignment sheet for each of the units listed above, due dates for the assignments will be posted on this web site and in the classroom on the assignment board. Homework should be done every night (20-30 minutes) during the school week and sometimes over the weekend.

Late homework will not be accepted.  All assignments will be collected at the beginning of the class.  Students can stay after to finish their homework if I am staying after school.  However, if they do this the grade on the assignment will be lowered.

Parents please ask to see your child's assignment sheet so that you know they are completing their work. This class will be much harder than the science class that they took last year. I am after school two nights a week for extra help. Encourage them to stay for extra help.

Grading
Each students marking period average will be made up of the following:  tests, quizzes, class work, homework and projects.  All grades are updated weekly and parents can call to ask for a current report any time.

New York State Lab Requirement
Every student must meet the New York State Lab Requirement to be able to take the Regents Exam. To meet the New York State Regents Lab Requirement all students must have the required number of satisfactory labs (approximately 23-27) handed in by  the first week of January for the Fall Semester or the first week of June for the Spring Semester.  The exact number of labs will be determined during the semester and a letter will be sent home to all parents.

Any student that does not receive a satisfactory grade on a lab must rewrite the lab to receive credit for that lab.  All of the student's labs must be turned in and satisfactory at the end of each marking period,   To make the lab satisfactory the student must make a serious effort to correct all mistakes. This includes abstracts, data tables, graphs, questions, conclusions, etc..  This must be done neatly on a separate sheet of paper and handed in with the original lab report.  If the students rewritten lab does not meet these standards the student will rewrite the lab again.

Parents please check to see that your child is completing and passing their labs.  A letter will be sent home twice during the semester from your child's lab class teacher that will contain all of their lab grades.  For a lab to count as a passing lab the grade must be at least a 20 out of 30 points.  Please review this information with your child and return the letter to your child's lab class teacher.
