Design and implement a safe optimal solution to a given technological problem and use a formalized problem solving method

Identify constraints, which prevent a technological problem from being solved. Classify the constraints as those imposed by resource limitations, values, and/or attitudes of people and scientific principles

Steps in the design process

Identify and define the problem and consider limitations imposed

Brainstorming using a mind web - list of possible solutions

Research

Thumbnail sketches - quick sketches of possible designs with some notations

Develop plans, including drawings with measurements and details of construction

Construct a model of the solution, exhibiting a degree of craftsmanship

Testing model

Evaluation and modifications if necessary

Present findings

Possible materials might include the following

Fin Material - balsa wood, cardboard, foam core board, CD’s, and thin plywood

Nosecone Material - construction paper, the top of another two liter bottle, funnel, and ping pong ball

Parachute Material - plastic trash bag, string, and cloth

Miscellaneous materials - acrylic paint, decals and permanent makers
